Code Quest
A free website where students learn the Python programming language one small level at a time, while building their typing skills.
Who it's for
Code Quest was made by a teacher for students, including students in special education, who learn best with small steps, lots of practice, and clear feedback. It works well for any beginner in middle or high school. Students write real Python programs, press Run, and see their output right away. There's nothing to install, because Python runs inside the web browser.
How it works
135 levels
Nine topics with 15 levels each. Every level is one small task, like printing a message or asking a question.
Typing Guide
Turn it on to see the exact code in light gray and type over it. Typos are marked in red, so it doubles as typing practice.
Code it yourself
Turn the guide off to write the code from the mission. Students earn a star for solving it on their own.
Endless practice
Every level can change its names and numbers, so students can practice the same skill again and again.
Learn button
Explains every command and symbol in the level in simple words, with examples and read-aloud.
Celebrations
Confetti, points, ranks, streaks, and a list of what the student did right. A Daily Warm-up brings back older skills.

For teachers
Teachers sign in to the Teacher Dashboard to see their students' progress: levels finished, what each student is working on, how many tries they've had, typing speed, and the last code they ran. Teachers can make classes by typing in student emails or by importing a class from Google Classroom.
How Code Quest uses Google Classroom
When a teacher clicks Import from Google Classroom, Code Quest asks Google for permission to read that teacher's list of active classes and the names and email addresses of the students in them. Code Quest uses this only to build the class list in the Teacher Dashboard, so students who join can be matched to their class. Code Quest never changes anything in Google Classroom. Read the Privacy Policy for details.
Sign-in
Students and teachers can sign in with Google or with an email and password. Students see only their own progress. A teacher can see a student's progress only after the student joins that teacher's class.
